  We believe that we are called to be doers of God’s word, not hearers only. We believe that our posture in the world should reflect God’s posture - one of active engagement. We offer the following local opportunities for engaging in mission and service in our community.
  
  Community Link Mission
  This local food pantry for Saginaw and the surrounding area residents was originally located on the property of SUMC and was founded, in part, by this congregation. Donations of food items are always accepted at SUMC for transport to the current Community Link facility. Community Link is staffed primarily by volunteers who help distribute food on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The pantry address is 300 Belmont St. Saginaw, 76179.  You can call them at 817-847-4554 to make an appointment or if you would like more information.
  
  Saginaw Water Project
  The Saginaw Water Project is a Holy Focus goal that provides water utility assistance to City of Saginaw residents. SUMC has partnered with the City of Saginaw to identify residents who are in danger of having their water disconnected. The Saginaw Water Project is funded by donations from the congregation.
  
  Go Snacks
  A service ministry of SUMC that provides weekend snacks to elementary children who are identified as food insecure on the weekends. An informational board is available in the Fellowship Hall that lists the needs of the Go Snacks! Ministry.  Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis for delivery of the snacks to the school, or to help assemble the snack bags.  Donations are appreciated!
  
  Kids Hope USA
  This mentoring program at Willow Creek Elementary school is a way that SUMC members share the love of Christ. Visit the Kids Hope USA page to learn more.
  
  Presbyterian Night Shelter
  Once a month, small groups from SUMC pack sandwiches for the Presbyterian Night Shelter, the only free emergency homeless shelter in Fort Worth.  If you would like to get involved with this sandwich packing ministry, please contact the church office.

  Go Snacks Packing
  Go Snacks is a service ministry of SUMC that provides weekend snacks to elementary children in need. Volunteers are needed to pack snacks once a month. Snack packing takes place in the garage of the outreach building on the northeast corner of the church property. All ages are welcome to help pack - it's a great project for children to do with parents. Check Newsletter and Worship Bulletin for next dates.

  Through our connectional giving as a United Methodist congregation, Saginaw United Methodist Church supports the work of The United Methodist Church which is engaged in ministry around the world.   The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
  
  This humanitarian agency of The United Methodist Church provides disaster response to critical needs in nearly 100 countries around the world. The agency is also involved in areas long-term to addresss the needs of hunger and poverty.
  
  United Methodist Missionary
  
  SUMC finacially supports the missionary work of Guilermo Berman Ramirez, who serves in Reynosa, Mexico as the Mexican Methodist Border Mission Coordinator. Mr. Berman’s call to mission was inspired by the work of his parents as they received and worked with mission teams in the poor areas of Reynosa, Mexico. He began sensing God's call to mission as he saw how US teams in Reynosa worked with the people with so much love and care, and how inactive his local church was in mission. "I felt they (US teams) were doing what we (the Methodist Church of Mexico) were supposed to be doing as a church," Mr. Berman shares. During the past few years Willie has been involved in many opportunities of ministry and mission. New ministries have been started in the communities with which work teams serve: sewing classes, wood-working shops for men, medical clinics, scholarship programs, Bible distribution, construction of houses/schools/community centers, breakfast and lunch programs, craft programs, a Personal Energy Transportation (P.E.T.) Shop and many other programs.

  The body of Christ is made up of members, all with different gifts that contribute to the working of the body. At Saginaw United Methodist Church, many church members donate their time and talent to assist with various ministries. We invite you to step into service at SUMC through these opportunities:
  
  Connection Center
  Volunteers are needed to serve at this Sunday morning hospitality hub. Please follow this link to sign up to serve.
  
  Ushers and Greeters
  These servants greet those who come to worship each Sunday with the welcome of Christ. To learn more, contact coordinator Shirley Stevens.
  
  Doorstep Visitors
  These servants deliver a welcome gift to each guest upon their first visit to SUMC. To learn more, contact coordinator Dee Griffith.
  
  Audio/Visual
  These servants run the sound board and the visual projection system in worship on Sunday mornings. To learn more, contact coordinator our office.
  
  Worship Acolytes
  These child servants (in grades 3-6) serve in worship each week, lighting the altar candles and assisting with baptisms. To learn more, contact Charity Dragna, Interim Director of Children's Ministry.
  
  Church Office Assistant
  These servants help prepare the newsletter mailing and staff the reception desk. To learn more, contact the church office.
  
  
• Kids Hope USA
  

  

  Every 26 seconds, a youth drops out of school.
  Every 35 seconds, a child is confirmed as abused or neglected.
  Every 4 minutes, a child is arrested for drug abuse.
  
  Saginaw United Methodist Church is "here for good" and is committed to changing lives in our community. One way we do this is through mentoring at-risk children.
  
  SUMC is connected to Willow Creek Elementary through Kids Hope USA, a one-to-one mentoring program. The mentor model features:

  • One child: an at-risk public elementary school child who needs a relationship with a caring adult;
  • One hour: sixty critical minutes each week spent with a trained mentor who befriends the child and helps him acquire basic academic skills;
  • One church: owns the program with its partner school and provides a trained mentor and a behind-the-scenes prayer partner for each child; and
  • One school: welcomes this proven intervention to increase the academic skills of at-risk children at no cost to the school.
    
    

  How You Can Get Involved:
  
  Become a Mentor:
  Mentoring a child is a wonderful way to devote an hour a week to a child who desperately wants your love and guidance. Each mentor is paired with a child and meets with them on a weekly basis to work on academics and to have some fun together.
  
  Become a Prayer Partner:
  Faithfully commit to praying for one of our mentor/child pairs. Pray for their success and check in with them to hear joys and concerns.
